Mountain View Man Sought in Shooting Incident
Big Island police are looking for a Puna man who allegedly brandished a firearm at a woman Tuesday and fired a shot at her.
A 39-year-old Mountain View woman told police that she had gone to the home of James Gannon Coffey on Overview Road in Mountain View at about 3:30 p.m. to retrieve some property.
While there, she and Coffey got into an argument. The woman told police that as she was leaving she heard what sounded like a gunshot.
The woman said she then turned toward the suspect and saw him allegedly point what appeared to be a firearm at her and fire a round.
The woman then fled the area unharmed, police said.
Police have classified the incident as second-degree attempted murder, and are looking to question Coffey in the matter.
Coffey, 47, is described as 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds. He has hazel eyes and short graying hair. He may be driving a late-model brown Toyota pickup.
Police said that Coffey may be armed and should be considered dangerous. The public is being advised not to confront him but to call Det. Joel Field at 961-2381 or email him at jfield@co.hawaii.hi.us.
Anonymous calls can be made to Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
