HPA’s Brostek Named State’s Best Track and Field Athlete

Many know Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Shane Brostek as a dominating lineman and, occasionally, a punishing runner on the football gridiron. Some also know of his dad, Bern, who had career in the National Football League.

More people are taking notice of Brostek’s accolades in track and field. The HPA graduate received the Gatorade State Track and Field Athlete of the Year award, announced Friday by the school.

Brostek took home BIIF gold medals in the shotput and discus throw events, and won a state championship in the shotput. Both events were held at Kea‘au High School.

Earlier this month, Brostek was honored by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association with his nomination to the organization’s Hall of Honor. Brostek was one of 12 seniors from across the state to be a part of the class, which recognizes academic and athletic achievement, along with community service and sportsmanship. Brostek embodied all of these characteristics with his classroom work ethic, maintaining a 3.71 grade point average, and giving back to young kids in his community by working with them in football and track and field skills.

Brostek will be playing football on the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision level, accepting a scholarship to play for the University of Washington.
