A blue-and-white marked police cruiser will be stationed in front of Costco, where members and the general public are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items. Donors can contribute directly into the police cruiser and take a photo with officers participating in the event.

All donated non-perishable food items and monetary contributions will be distributed by The Food Basket, Hawaiʻi Island’s Food Bank, to people and families in need around Hawaiʻi Island.

Fill A Police Cruiser was established during the COVID-19 pandemic in response to the overwhelming demand for food assistance among kūpuna and other members of the community.

The need for food assistance continues to grow as many residents face ongoing economic challenges.

This annual event provides a simple and meaningful way for the community to help neighbors in need by donating essential food items.

Fill A Police Cruiser during the past 5 years collected more than 47,081 pounds of food and $85,024 in monetary donations.

Hawaiʻi Police Department and its community partners encourage everyone to participate in this year’s event. Every donation, large or small, helps make a meaningful difference in the lives of people and families facing food insecurity.
