State funds to support facility improvements at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo
Last week, state Senate Vice President Lorraine R. Inouye announced the release of $9.5 million in capital improvement program funding for facility improvements at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.
According to the fiscal year 2026-27 operating budget for the University of Hawaiʻi system, the Hilo campus will use its incoming funding to ground higher education in a Native Hawaiian place of learning, support student success across every phase of the student life cycle, advance research facilities and environmental monitoring infrastructure, and modernize training facilities and specialized instructional equipment.
“The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo plays a vital role in providing educational opportunities for our residents and preparing the next generation of professionals and community leaders,” said Senator Inouye. “I will continue advocating for investments that strengthen the university and provide opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and build their futures here at home.”
The $9.5 million investment will support the design and construction of improvements to campus facilities, helping ensure the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo continues to provide a quality learning environment for students, faculty, and the broader community.
