Temporary water service shutoff slated for portion of Kīlauea Avenue in Hilo
Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply notifies customers along a portion of Kīlauea Avenue in Hilo that water service will be temporarily turned off later this week.
Service will be turned off 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 15 for all mauka customers between ‘Ōhea Street and Pūʻainakō Street. The temporary shutoff is necessary to install a new waterline connection.
Waterlines will be flushed and cleaned upon resumption of service, during which customers could notice turbid and/or discolored water.
There also could be trapped air in plumbing, which will be released as water is initially used.
Affected customers are asked to take any and all precautions necessary to protect property and facilities including, but not limited to:
- Disabling electrical power to pumps and/or any other devices that normally are dependent on water pressure and/or water supply to operate correctly.
- Disabling electrical power from any other equipment, appliances, etc. that might be damaged if automatically energized during the water shutoff.
Affected customers also should set aside drinking water ahead of time to meet water needs during the temporary interruption.
Call Department of Water Supply District Supervisor Danny Taka Jr. at 808-961-8790 for additional information or with any questions.
