Police thank community for successful Badges and Buckets fundraiser
Hawai‘i Police Department thanks the Hawai‘i Island community for making the recent Badges and Buckets fundraiser a huge success.
The annual event — featuring off-duty officers, volunteers and Special Olympics athletes raising awareness and collecting donations for Special Olympics Hawai‘i — raised a total of $47,636.45 through the generosity of community members around the island.
Badges and Buckets is hosted at the Hilo and Kona Walmarts each year. This year’s fundraiser was Sept. 11-13 in Kona and Sept. 17-19 in Hilo.
Funds raised directly benefit Special Olympics Hawai‘i and its efforts to provide sports programs throughout the year for athletes, including opportunities in regional and national competition.
“We are truly humbled by our community’s support,” said Hawai‘i Police Department in a recent release.
