Lifeguard certification offered at Pāhoa Community Aquatic Center
Classes will be 8-4 Monday-Friday, Oct. 5-9.
Summer may be officially over, but lifeguards are needed year round on the Big Island.
The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering a lifeguard certification course during the upcoming fall break, at Pāhoa Community Aquatic Center.
The American Red Cross lifeguarding certification course, which includes deep water training, will be held Oct. 5 to 9, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Participants must be at least 15 years old before the last day of the course. In addition, they must pass two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations before the first day of classes.
To schedule an evaluation and to register for the course, call the aquatic center at 808-965-2700. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certification valid for two years, according to the Red Cross website.
The cost of the course is $123; payment must be made in cash in the exact amount.
