Participating students will learn critical life skills in five key areas.
The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs invites middle and high school students to participate in the 2026-27 Hawaiʻi LifeSmarts Competition to learn critical life skills.
LifeSmarts is a free, national program that teaches students skills in five key areas: personal finance, consumer rights and responsibilities, health and safety, the environment and technology, through online and in-person competitions. Registration is open at lifesmarts.org.
Teams are one adult coach/teacher and a minimum of four students.
Registered middle school (junior varsity) teams in grades 6-8 will participate in an online-only competition from Oct. 12-Dec. 4.
High school (varsity) teams will participate in the online competition. The four highest-scoring teams will be invited to the state championship on Feb.18, 2027, at the Neil S. Blaisdell Center.
The winning team will have the opportunity to represent the state at the national competition, April 15-18, 2027, in Buffalo, NY.
