9 new officers welcomed into ranks at Hawaiʻi Police Department
Hawaiʻi Police Department on Sept. 9 welcomed nine new officers into its ranks following the 105th Police Recruit Class recognition ceremony.
Class members were:
- Officer Dansen Cabinatan (class president).
- Officer Nicholas Cisneros.
- Officer Zachary Hale (class vice president).
- Officer Jared Halek.
- Officer Kaʻikeao Kane-Kalua.
- Officer Hana Kang.
- Officer Alexander Lee (class secretary).
- Officer Jadon-Paul Oliveira (class treasurer).
- Officer Cameron Wells.
“As we move forward into our careers, we must never forget the oath we took. The badge we wear is a symbol of trust,” Cabinatan said in his address to the class, their families and guests during the recognition ceremony. “The community will look to us during some of their most difficult moments, and it is our responsibility to serve with integrity, compassion, courage and respect.”
Special recognition also was given to recruits who excelled during training:
- Cisneros received the Academic Award, which is presented to the recruit who achieves the highest overall average on weekly examinations throughout the police academy.
- Lee received the Firearms Award for demonstrating the highest level of performance and proficiency.
- Lee was also awarded the Most Outstanding Recruit Award for performing in the upper 10% academically and physically, and was an inspirational example for his fellow officers.
- Halek was awarded the Physical Fitness Award for excelling in and maintaining physical conditioning throughout training.
The 105th recruit class began training Nov. 17, 2025. After 6 months of academic instruction, recruits completed 4 months of field training under the guidance of veteran officers throughout various districts.
Class members were assigned solo positions in Hilo, Kona, Kaʻū and North Kohala, with their service to begin Sept. 16.
