September flight operations announced by Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park

Management of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources and maintain backcountry facilities.

The park announces the following remaining September flight operations:

• Between 6 and 9 a.m. Sept. 15 and 24: Ungulate survey at Kahuku between 2,000- and 7,000-foot elevation.
• Between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 17: Survey and control of faya tree and guinea grass from 100- to 2,400-foot elevation.
• Between 7 and 11 a.m. Sept. 24: Mapping and control of invasive fountain grass from sea level to 4,000-foot elevation.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory also could conduct additional flight operations over Kīlauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes to assess volcanic activity and maintain instrumentation.

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors.
