150 Kealakehe Elementary students joined Hawaiʻi Island police in traffic safety campaign
The campaign focused on the dangers of speeding, reckless driving and driving under the influence.
More than 150 fifth-grade students at Kealakehe Elementary School joined Hawaii Island police last month for a sign-waving campaign designed to remind motorists to slow down and drive responsibly.
The event, held for an hour on Aug. 11, was organized by the police department’s Kona Community Policing Section in partnership with the school.
Students, faculty and staff stood along the roadway holding signs with positive traffic safety messages. The campaign focused on the dangers of speeding, reckless driving and driving under the influence.
The activity gave students a hands-on opportunity to participate in a community safety effort while encouraging passing drivers to remain alert and make responsible choices behind the wheel.
Police thanked the students, faculty and staff for their participation and continued partnership in efforts to promote safer roads throughout the community.
