For sale: Hawai‘i Island luxury home featured as Casa Amor villa on ‘Love Island USA’
The 13-acre Royal Palms Estate in Papa‘aloa,is described as one of the most private oceanfront-style retreats along the Hāmākua Coast by its listing agent, Deep Blue HI.
For $3.25 million, you can buy the property used as the Casa Amor villa in season three of “Love Island USA.”
The 13-acre property — Royal Palms Estate at 34-144 Kaihuiki Road in Papa‘aloa — is listed by the realty company Deep Blue HI as one of the most private oceanfront-style retreats along the Hāmākua Coast on the Big Island.
In 2021, this property was where reality TV’s most infamous test of loyalty played out with contestants sent there to tempt fate. On the Big Island property, a rotating cast of bombshells arrived to try to break up original couples’ loyalty. This twist become a signature of the show.
Season 3 was the only time “Love Island USA” filmed in Hawaii. Afterward, the show moved to California and eventually settled in Fiji.
The property includes a 3,766-square-foot home with four bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms.
The property offers “sweeping, uninterrupted ocean views that anchor the property to the coastline,” according to the listing.
The property was purchased in 2004 by Owen-Hauseur Royal Palms, a limited-liability corporation, for $625,000. According to Hawai‘i County Real Property Tax records, the home was built in 2008.
The Owen-Hauseur Royal Palms Estate website said the LLC spent eight years developing Royal Palms Estate into a Hawai‘i vacation rental, including building all of the structures and propagating the tropical plants.
“The majestic entrance driveway consists of 52 royal palms trees spanning over 60 feet in height,” the website said.
The main residence is designed for refined resort living.
There are four private primary suites, an ocean-facing great room, a gourmet kitchen, theater and billiards room all open to dramatic coastal vistas. A separate pool house adds a fifth suite.
Outdoor living defines the experience with an infinity-edge pool, lava rock waterfall, hot tub and a true swim-up bar, surrounded by expansive covered lanais that capture the sunrise and the movement of whales offshore, the listing said.
The property also functions as a working farm, with an orchard that produces more than 25,000 pounds of lychee, as well as coconuts, citrus, mango, longan and bananas.
The Royal Palms Estate is five minutes north of the Waterfalling Estate, which was also featured in the CBS reality series “Love Island,” MTV’s “Ex on the Beach” and Architectural Digest. The mansion, built in 2005 along Old Māmalahoa Highway, was rented for up to $ 10,000 a night to several big names, including a royal family and Justin Bieber.
The Waterfalling Estate sold in 2023 at auction for $5.75 million plus a 12% buyer’s premium to buyer Eric Lochtefeld, according to Mansion Global, an international real estate website.
