National Weather Service extends high surf advisory again for south-facing shores

National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu again extended a high surf advisory for all south-and east-facing shores of the state.

The current long-period south swell will hold steady at advisory levels Sunday morning, then begin a slow decline late this afternoon through the end of the week, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

Building east swell from Hurricane Fausto is expected to begin impacting all exposed east-facing shores on Sunday. East shore surf will gradually increase as Fausto moves closer to Hawai‘i, and decline Wednesday as the system passes to the west.

Large breaking waves of 10 to 14 feet are expected. Surf conditions will continue to make swimming and other ocean recreation activities dangerous.

Forecasters again advise the public to heed all advice from ocean safety officials. Remember: when in doubt, don’t go out.
