Health officials conduct follow-up testing at Spencer Beach Park

The Hawaiʻi Department of Health is conducting additional water quality testing at Spencer Beach Park after routine monitoring detected elevated levels of enterococci bacteria.

The initial sample measured 207 enterococci per 100 milliliters of water, exceeding the state’s recreational water quality threshold.

Health officials said they are uncertain whether the sample accurately reflects current conditions because Spencer Beach Park has historically met state water quality standards and no known source of fecal contamination has been identified.

As a result, the department collected a second water sample and is retesting the site to verify the initial results.

The Department of Health said it will update its public notification once the additional testing is complete and the new results are available.
