As ballots begin to arrive across Hawaiʻi County, now is the time to meet the three candidates for Hawaiʻi County Council District 7 this Sunday.

Mark Henriques, Eddie Ombac, Manu Powers are running for the Hawaiʻi County Council seat currently held by Rebecca Villegas, who is term-limited.

From north to south, District 7 begins at Nani Kailua Drive in Kailua-Kona and encompasses State Highway 19 until Trousseau Road in South Kona. From east to west, it begins with Luhia Street and ends at State Route 11, extending from northeast of Kona Belt Road to Old Mauka Government Road Trail. It covers Honalo, Kahaluʻu-Keauhou, Hōlualoa, and part of Kailua.

Voters will receive the election ballot around July 21 and must mail it back by Aug. 1 or drop it in a drop box located across the county by 7 p.m. on Aug. 8. Voters can also do so in person at a voter service center.

If a mistake is made or a ballot is lost, voters may still vote at a voter service center or call 808-961-8277 to make other arrangements.

The county council elections are nonpartisan, and if one candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in the primary election, there will be no runoff in the general election.

Henriques, Ombac, and Powers will be at the meet-and-greet to answer questions and discuss their platforms with District 7 residents at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, at Kona Christian Church, which is located at 74-5883 Luhia St., Suite B in Kailua-Kona.

To register to vote or update voter information, visit the Office of Elections webpage.
