Lane closure scheduled for portion of Daniel K. Inouye Highway for grading, paving
A single lane on Daniel K. Inouye Highway, also known as Saddle Road, is scheduled to begin Monday, June 8, between mile posts 10 and 19, for Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation to perform grading and paving work.

Crews will mill the highway and install open-graded friction course to increase drainage capability of the pavement and reduce potential for hydroplaning.
Work begins at 7 a.m. Monday at mile post 16 and will continue from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for about the next 30 days, weather permitting.
Traffic in both directions will be maintained through alternating traffic control, or contraflow, in the remaining open lane. Speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph and a pilot car could be used to ensure safety of workers.
Crews will work toward Kona, then switch to Hilo-bound lanes once they reach mile post 19.
When the crews switch to the Hilo-bound side, an assessment of the driving behavior at the construction zone will be made to see if contraflow is still necessary.
Crews will sequence to the highway between mile posts 16 and 10 once installation is complete between mile posts 16 and 19.
Future closures will be added to the weekly lane closure listing.
