12 motorists arrested for DUI during week of April 20 to April 26 on Hawai‘i County roads

Twelve motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant during the week of April 20 through April 26.

Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

Arrests occurred in three out of the eight districts: seven in Hilo, four in Kona and one in Puna. So far this year, there have been 273 DUI arrests compared with 302 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.6%, according to a news release from Hawai‘i Island police.

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 317 major crashes so far this year, compared with 331 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 4.23%.
