UPDATE: Hawai‘i Belt Road in South Kona reopens after traffic crash closed portion of roadway

Update 12:03 on March 22: Hawai‘i Police Department advises that Highway 11 (Hawai‘i Belt Road) in South Kona, between Captain Cook Village Road and Aoni Way, is open to both directions of travel. 

Original post: A portion of Highway 11, or Hawai‘i Belt Road, in South Kona, is closed because of a traffic crash.

Both lanes are closed between Captain Cook Village Road and Aoni Way for the next several hours. Hawai‘i Island police advise motorists to avoid the area.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
