Love is in the air, Big Island, whether it’s family members, close and best friends or your sweetie.

Valentine’s Day is Saturday (Feb. 14), and there are several events and activities happening this weekend around the island that will make great date options. So good that Cupid himself approves.

You can show your “Wiliwili LOVE” in Waikōloa or take a Sweethearts Stroll in Hawi. 

There’s also a Valentine’s Day cake decorating class in Kea‘au, and what’s better than gazing into the night sky in with the one you love?

No. 1 — Sweethearts Stroll (Hāwī, Feb. 13)

When: 4 to 7 p.m.

Location: Strolling throughout historic Hāwī

Treat your sweetheart to a pre-Valentine’s evening stroll through this historic North Hawai‘i community. Come check out all the amazing businesses in town. Beyond the shopping opportunities, you’ll find sweet treats, food, a sweetheart picture station, shave ice, face-painting, flowers, gifts, crafts, friends and even cold beer.

No. 2 — Valentine’s Day Cake Decorating (Kea‘au, Feb. 13)

When: 5 to 7 p.m.

Location: Big Island Meadery, 16-313 Shipman Road

Guests at this special Valentine’s themed event will get a single layer 6-inch round cake with base coat, an assortment of piping colors and variety of toppings. Come create something cute and take it home to demolish. Keiki-friendly event; mead will be available for purchase.

No. 3 — Valentine’s Art Party Friday (Hilo, Feb. 13)

When: 6 p.m.

Location: East Hawai‘i Cultural Center, 141 Kalākaua St.

Join Tim Hutchinson and friends for this free guided activity to make a handmade Valentine’s card for the people you love — including yourself! Supplies included. Feel free to bring your own projects to work on, too. Open to adults and keiki ages 12 years old and older; participants ages 12 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult).

No. 4 — Valentine’s Stargazing Night (Waikōloa, Feb. 13)

When: 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Location: Waikōloa Stables, 68-1936 Waikōloa Road

Bring your special someone to explore the night skies over West Hawai‘i and all the stars lighting up the darkness of space just like they light up your face each and every time you see them. Expert astronomers and telescopes will be available to get an even more personal look at the twinkling heavens. Free to attend, plus there’s free popcorn, too. Everyone is welcome.

No. 5 — Valentine’s Rock Party! (Volcano, Feb. 13)

When: 6 to 9 p.m.

Location: Lava Lounge, Kilauea Military Camp, 99-252 Crater Rim Drive

Bring your Valentine, your closest friends or even your family members to dance the night away with Doug Stillwell 3.0, featuring Perry Santoro on bass and Bruce David on drums. Free. No cover.

No. 6 — Plant People Road Show: Valentine’s Day edition (Kailua-Kona, Feb. 14)

When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location: Makaeo Pavilion, Old Kona Airport State Recreation Area, 75-5500 Kuakini Highway

How sweet it is when the lineup of mom-and-pop nursery growers comes to town. Attendees have the chance to talk directly with those growers in attendance and browse plants in a casual direct-from-farmer atmosphere. Find blooming flowers and potted plants perfect for your Valentine. Show is in its 12th year. Free admission.

No. 7 — 15th annual Wiliwili Festival (Waikōloa, Feb. 14)

When: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Locations: Waikōloa Dry Forest Preserve and Waikōloa Stables

The Big Island is invited to spread some “Wiliwili LOVE” while celebrating the region’s unique lowland dry forest and its iconic wiliwili tree. Festival-goers can explore the forest on guided hikes, visit educational booths, tour the native plant nursery, enjoy live music and participate in hands-on workshops at the preserve. Forest presentations by local experts, wildfire prevention information, food trucks and Waikōloa Dry Forest Initiative’s annual native plant giveaway add to the fun at the stables. Bring your special someone and enjoy a gathering of conservation, culture and community.

No. 10 — LOVE: An Aerial Dance Show (Hilo, Feb. 14)
