Beginning this month, the Kupu Palliative Care Program will be available through a dedicated clinic space within the North Hawaiʻi Hospice office, extending palliative care services to residents of Hāmākua, Waimea, North Kohala, and South Kohala.

The collaboration underscores a shared commitment to helping patients and families in North Hawaiʻi access the care and support they need, close to home.

“This partnership with Hawaiʻi Care Choices expands the support available to our community,” said Faye Mitchell, executive director of North Hawaiʻi Hospice. “By welcoming Kupu Palliative Care into our space, we’re able to help patients and families in North Hawaiʻi receive compassionate, expert support earlier—when it can make a meaningful difference in their quality of life.”

Kupu Palliative Care focuses on relieving symptoms, supporting complex medical decision-making, and addressing the emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients and caregivers. Services are designed to complement curative and life-prolonging treatments and are available to individuals at various stages of serious illness.

“We are both honored and excited to bring Kupu Palliative Care to North Hawaiʻi and to work with a trusted organization that shares our values of compassion, dignity, and community,” said Brenda Ho, CEO of Hawaiʻi Care Choices. “This expansion allows us to better serve our community by meeting them where they are and providing care that honors their goals and values.”

Through the expansion, patients in North Hawaiʻi will benefit from coordinated palliative care visits, interdisciplinary support, and increased access to specialized clinical expertise. The clinic-based model will offer both in-person and telehealth visits, promoting steady, connected care without interruptions and flexibility for patients and caregivers.
