Heavy snow predicted for Big Island summits beginning tomorrow morning
A winter storm watch is in effect for Big Island summits above 11,000 feet, with abundant moisture bringing heavy snowfall Sunday through Monday.
The summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa may see snow accumulations of 10 to 16 inches, and southerly winds could gust as high as 45 miles per hour.
According to forecasters, travel could be difficult to impossible, with blowing snow significantly reducing visibility at times and periods of zero visibility.
The winter storm watch is in effect from 6 a.m. Sunday to 6 p.m. Monday.
