Update: South Hilo roadway reopened following accident

Update, Jan. 15, 9:35 p.m. Route 19 in south Hilo has reopened to traffic following an earlier closure, the Hawaii Police Department said.

Police confirmed that all lanes are now open and normal traffic flow has resumed. The department thanked motorists for their patience and cooperation during the closure.

Original Post: Hawaiʻi police are advising drivers to avoid Route 19 near Lali Place to Paukaa Drive in south Hilo following a traffic accident.

Officials said the roadway is expected to remain closed for approximately three hours while authorities respond and clear the scene.

Motorists were urged to use alternate routes until the closure is lifted.
