A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 15) for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island.

The National Weather Service forecast office in Honolulu expects southwest winds of 40 to 50 mph atop the mauna, with gusts up to 65 mph.

Winds that strong can make driving and walking dangerous as well as forcefully open doors, damage hinges or slam doors shut, possibly causing injuries.
