Water restrictions for South Kohala customers have eased after recent rainfall replenished the Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply’s Waikōloa reservoirs.

Several South Kohala communities have been under a water-use restriction since April 2025 because of a prolonged lack of rain. At that time, affected customers were asked to reduce water use by at least 25%, and irrigation customers were required to cut water usage by at least 50%.

With the rainfall over the weekend, customers are now asked to reduce water use by 10%. The restriction is for customers from Āhualoa to Waiemi subdivision, including Honokaia, Pu‘ukapu, Nienie, Waimea Town, Lālāmilo Farm Lots, portions of Mana Road and portions of Māmalahoa Highway.
