Flood advisory issued for leeward portion of Hawai‘i Island

A flood advisory is in place parts of Hawai‘i Island till 7:30 p.m.

At 4:16 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over the leeward Big Island north of Keahole Point. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Waikōloa Village, Kapa‘au, Puakō, Kawaihae, Kohala Ranch, Kamuela, Pu‘uanahulu, Waimanu Valley, Waipi‘o Valley, Pololu Valley, Halaula, Hawī, Pōhakuloa Training Area, Kalaoa, Mauna Lani, Waikōloa Beach, Waikii, Mahukona and Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport.

Minor flooding on roads, in poor drainage areas, and in streams is expected.
