Vulcans women’s cross-country concludes season; places 24th at NCAA West Regional

University of Hawai‘i at Hilo women’s cross-country wrapped up its 2025 season Nov. 8 running in the NCAA West Regional 6K Championships hosted by Western Oregon at the Ash Creek Preserve in Monmouth, Ore.

The Vulcans finished No. 24 among the field of 28 teams, with nearly 200 total runners competing.

Sequoia Gonzales led University of Hawai‘i at Hilo with a No. 103 finish. The 5-foot-2 junior from Carson, Calif., ran the course in a time of 22:31.84.

Kathleen Raab had the second-best performance for the Vulcans, placing at No. 111. The 5-foot-4 redshirt sophomore from Auburn, Wash., ended the regional championship race with a time of 22:41.44, just 9.6 seconds behind Gonzales.

Also among the 191 women who finished the race were FOUR OTHER UNIVERSITY OF HAWAI‘I AT HILO RUNNERS:

• SUMMER CORKEwas No. 141 with a total time of 23:11.17. (29.73 seconds behind Raab)
• SAMANTHA MORINAGA placed No. 156 with a finish time of 23:30.93. (19.76 seconds behind Corke)
• CHLOE KOLB finished at No. 163 with a total time of 23:54.42. (23.49 seconds behind Morinaga)
• ISABEL RAYMOND ended the 2025 season at No. 169 in the regional run with a time of 24:13.35. (18.9 seconds behind Kolb)

Vulcans top finisher Gonzales and their final placeholder Raymond were separated by 1:41.51.

University of Hawai‘i at Hilo placed 24th as a team in the early November regional championship with a score of 669 points. A total of 28 teams participated.

California State University, Chico (Chico State) claimed the team victory, with runners placing No. 2, 6, 9, 11 and 12, and finishing the championship run with a score of 40 points.

Biola University’s Bethany Mapes crossed the finish line ahead of the rest of the field, with a time of 20:29.31 to become the first individual champion from a PacWest school since 2004.

Her time was a full 2:2.53 faster than Vulcans top finisher Gonzales.
