Big Island police arrest 20 motorists for DUI week of Oct. 27 to Nov. 2
There were 20 motorists who chose to drive under the influence of an intoxicant and were arrested by Hawai‘i Island police after being caught in the act during the week of Oct. 27 to Nov. 2.
Eleven of those drivers were involved in traffic crashes; six of the drivers were younger than 21 years old.
There have been 770 DUI arrests so far this year compared with 813 during the same period last year, or a decrease of 5.29%.
DUI ARRESTS BY THE NUMBERS

Hawai‘i Police Department Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and discovered 841 major crashes so far this year compared with 832 major crashes during the same time last year, or an increase of 1.08%.
There have been 18 fatal crashes resulting in 20 fatalities to date in 2025 on Big Island roadways compared with 23 fatal crashes resulting in 25 fatalities during the same time last year, representing a 21.74% decline in fatal crashes and 20% for fatalities.
Non-traffic fatalities — those not on a public roadway — still stand at zero for the year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
