Hawaiʻi County to temporarily close Keaʻau Transfer Station for paving work
The Keaʻau Transfer Station will close Sept. 17 to allow for necessary paving work, according to the Hawaiʻi County Department of Environmental Management.
The facility is expected to reopen on Sept. 18, with regular operations hours.
While the Keaʻau site is temporarily unavailable, residents are encouraged to use alternative nearby facilities:
- Hilo Transfer Station (1471 Ho‘olaulima Road) – Open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Pāhoa Transfer Station (15-1870 Cemetery Road) – Open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This short-term closure is part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve public infrastructure.
