Water conservation measures eased for residents from Āhualoa to Pōhākea
Residents — whose homes are connected to the Hawai‘i County water system — from Āhualoa to Pōhākea continue to be asked to reduce their water use, but now to a lesser degree.

Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply announced the morning of Aug. 26 that effective immediately — and until further notice — a water restriction notice previously in effect for the Hāmākua neighborhoods was downgraded to a water conservation notice.
Customers affected include those along:
- Kahana Drive, east of Kalehua Road.
- Kalehua Road.
- Pa‘auilo Mauka Road, between Kalōpā Mauka Road and Pōhākea Road.
- All side roads and adjacent areas.
A water conservation notice requests affected customers to reduce their water use by at least 10%. Officials also ask customers to conserve drinking water, use it wisely and not waste it.
Conservation efforts remain crucial to allow the public water system to stabilize and maintain water service to all of the department’s customers.
Residents were previously required to cut their water use by at least 25% because of two water main breaks earlier this month in the area.
“[Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply] thanks affected customers for their understanding and kokua,” said the department’s announcement about the easing of conservation measures.
