The Pāhoa Recycling & Transfer Station will remain open while repairs are made to the Fire Department connection that allows firefighters to hook hoses and pump water directly from the central water system, the County of Hawai‘i Department of Environmental Management announced.

The infrastructure repair, which will be done by Isemoto Contracting, will begin on June 16 and is expected to be completed at the end of the month.

All services will continue to be available. But the construction area located near the entrance to the transfer station may impact access and traffic flow during the work period.

Residents should expect temporary closures of some parking stalls and refuse bays, as well as the relocation of the appliance drop-off area.

Traffic control signs and barriers will be in place to guide vehicles safely through the site. The public is advised to proceed with caution and aloha when entering and exiting the facility.
