A 72-year-old Puna man was charged this afternoon in connection with a shooting incident in Hilo Sunday night.

Joseph Amormino was charged with first-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, burglary and four firearms violations.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred at a home in the Panaewa area of Hilo, where officers found a 55-year-old woman with gunshot wounds. The woman is at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in serious but guarded condition.

Police said Joseph Amormino of Hawaiian Beaches allegedly shot the woman, who was not identified, and fired at another person in the residence.

Police said Amormino was also charged with three counts of terroristic threatening for a case that occurred 20 minutes before the shooting. In that case, Amormino allegedly waved a handgun at at three people after allegedly tailgating their vehicle on Highway 130 near the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision.
