UPDATE: Puna Man Charged, Held on $656,000 Bail
A 72-year-old Puna man was charged this afternoon in connection with a shooting incident in Hilo Sunday night.
Joseph Amormino was charged with first-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, burglary and four firearms violations.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred at a home in the Panaewa area of Hilo, where officers found a 55-year-old woman with gunshot wounds. The woman is at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in serious but guarded condition.
Police said Amormino was also charged with three counts of terroristic threatening for a case that occurred 20 minutes before the shooting. In that case, Amormino allegedly waved a handgun at at three people after allegedly tailgating their vehicle on Highway 130 near the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision.
Police said the occupants of the vehicle were a 52-year-old woman, 48-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl, all from Mountain View.
Bail for Amormino, who was being held in the Hilo police cellblock pending a Wednesday court appearance, was set at $656,000.
