Update: Ocean View murder victim identified; police continue investigation
Update at 2:57 p.m. Oct. 25: Hawai’i Island police identified the remains of a man discovered Oct. 18 on a Tiki Lane property in Ocean View were those of 56-year-old Wayne Richard Moriarty, also known as Arthur Hackett, of Ocean View.
An autopsy was performed Friday. A forensic pathologist determined Moriarty’s death was caused by a gunshot wound and ruled it a homicide.

Original story posted at 1:49 p.m. Oct. 21: Hawai‘i Island police are investigating a murder in Ocean View after a man was found dead the afternoon of Oct. 18 in a home on Tiki Lane.
Hawai‘i Police Department Ka‘ū patrol officers responded shortly after 1 p.m. to the residence in the 92-9000 block after receiving a report of a deceased man inside. Upon their arrival, they discovered the body of a Caucasian man thought to be in his 50s who had sustained a fatal injury.
Detectives from the Hawai‘i Police Department Area II Criminal Investigation Section responded to the scene to continue the investigation.
After ca preliminary investigation, it was thought the injuries were suspicious and not accidental.
A second-degree murder investigation continues.
The victim has not yet been identified.
