Pāhoa motorcyclist critically injured in ʻĀinaloa crash, flown to Honolulu hospital
A 33-year-old Pāhoa man is in critical condition at a Honolulu hospital after the motorcycle he was riding struck a pickup truck Thursday afternoon in ‘Āinaloa.
Hawai‘i Police Department officers responded at 2:42 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of ‘Āinaloa Boulevard and ‘Āinaloa Way where a 2004 Chevy pickup that was turning left onto ‘Āinaloa Way after traveling west on ‘Āinaloa Boulevard was struck by a motorcycle traveling east on ‘Āinaloa Boulevard.
The Pāhoa man driving the motorcycle was unresponsive at the scene.
He was transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center in critical condition and subsequently flown to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu for further treatment.
The 41-year-old Pāhoa woman who was drivin the Chevy pickup truck and her four minor passengers were not injured.
Police think speed and impairment are factors in the crash.
The East Hawai‘i Traffic Enforcement Unit responded to the scene and continues to investigate the incident as a negligent injury investigation.
