High tides this weekend could bring minor coastal flooding throughout the state

King Tides could bring minor coastal flooding along the shorelines of all Hawaiian Islands throughout the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, the upcoming high tides are a combination of the full moon and water levels running around 0.5 feet higher than predicted. The flooding could hit as early as this afternoon, with increased chances of flooding occurring Saturday through Monday afternoon high tides.

The coastal flooding is anticipated to impact low-lying coastal areas. Beaches that are normally dry, could see minor coastal erosion and saltwater inundation.

The public is advised not to drive through flooded roadways. If you are forced to drive through salt water, rinse your vehicle with fresh water.

Move electronics, vehicles or other valuables to higher ground. Monitor vessels to ensure mooring lines don’t get too tight and watch out for overwash around boat ramps.

Secure canoes or other watercraft stowed on beaches.
