5 a.m. Friday update: Hawai‘i Island police reopen Route 11 in South Kona near mile marker 95.

Original post: The Hawaiʻi Police Department asks the public to avoid Highway 11 in South Kona for the next several hours following a recent car crash.

Police made the announcement just before 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, saying some roads have closed due to the incident.

“A vehicle crash near the 95-mile marker has closed Route 11, between Kaohe Rd and Ahe Kolo Rd, and will require a detour of traffic for the next several hours. Drive with caution, road crews in the area,” police said in a statement.
