The Kona Community Aquatic Center will be closed starting Aug. 10 at 3 p.m. for repairs and maintenance.

During the closure, Parks and Recreation staff will replace the sidewall grates on the pool’s moveable bulkhead and perform additional maintenance tasks. This work will require draining all water from the pool basin as well as balancing the water chemistry following refilling.

Parks and Recreation Director Maurice Messina said crews will also be fixing a couple of leaks in the pump room, replacing the sand filter media for the kitty pool and general maintenance around the facility.

The pool is expected to reopen Aug. 27. Messina said all Kona pool users and swim teams have been contacted and encouraged to visit Konawaena Pool in Kealekua while the Kona facility is closed.
