Original post from 7:19 am. July 9: The National Weather Serivce in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory until 6 a.m. July 10 for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island.
East winds of 40 to 50 mph with gusts of more than 60 mph are forecast atop the mountains during the advisory period.
Winds that strong can make driving and walking difficult. They can forcefully open doors and damage hinges or slam doors shut, possibly causing injuries.

The public is advised to consider postponing travel to the summits until conditions improve.
If you must travel to the summits, use extra caution walking and driving. Be careful opening or closing doors.
