Blood Bank of Hawai‘i is partnering with and giving back to Special Olympics Hawai‘i this summer from June 1 through Aug. 31 for its “Give Blood. Empower Athletes.” campaign.

The “Give Blood. Empower Athletes” campaign strives to address the 15% dip in blood donations that typically occurs during the summer months. This initiative helps ensure that Special Olympics Hawai‘i athletes can compete at no cost.

Across the state and throughout the summer, neighbor islands and partner blood drives will be organized to boost donations. To kick off the season, BBH is hosting a Kona blood drive this week at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kona.

This event aims to rally the Kona community to meet the ongoing demand for blood donations statewide.

The three-day drive will operate during the following hours:

  • Tuesday from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Thursday from 6 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Community support is crucial to maintaining an adequate blood supply.

Donating blood is a simple yet impactful way to support the community, BBH officials stated. Given Hawai‘i’s unique geography, it’s essential to maintain a sufficient blood supply for patients in need.
