Hawai‘i International Futsal Cup returning to Hilo
Registration is now open for the 2024 Hawai‘i International Futsal Cup event, which will take place in Hilo.
The County of Hawai‘i Department of Parks and Recreation is partnering with Hawai‘i Futsal and the WeGo! Foundation for the event, which will take place Aug. 9-11 at the Edith Kanaka‘ole Multi-Purpose Stadium, the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium and Pana‘ewa Park.
Originally developed in Uruguay in the 1930s, Futsal is like soccer but is played on a hard court, usually indoors, with five players per side. The smaller space creates a fast-paced sport that emphasizes technique and skill.
Following a successful inaugural year in 2023, the event returns with opportunities for youth and adults to compete during the three-day tournament.
Mayor Mitch Roth said the county is honored to work with partners to bring the competition to residents, young and seasoned.
“These are opportunities for folks to come together, play something they love, and build their community. That is why we continue to make significant investments in our parks and facilities so that we can support these types of events islandwide.”
Divisions include:
- Girls: 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U
- Boys: 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U
- Women’s Open
- Men’s Open
The registration deadline is July 26 and cost per team is $375.

“Hosting the 2024 Hawai‘i International Futsal Cup creates an opportunity for local athletes to discover and experience a dynamic sport that is relatively new to Hawai‘i but very popular internationally,” said Lindsey Iyo, Recreation Administrator with Parks & Recreation.
Iyo added a delegation from Japan will also join the tournament again this year.
