Kaʻū man indicted in connection with police standoff in Ocean View
A 32-year-old Ocean View man has been indicted by a Kona grand jury in connection with a May 12 police standoff at a residence on Alaoli Drive in Ocean View.
Kaʻū patrol officers arrested Kamren Forest Adams on May 30 on a $70,000 indictment warrant.
Adams is charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree terroristic threatening.
He made his initial appearance May 31 in Kona Circuit Court, where his bail was maintained. He was ordered to appear Aug. 1 for return on examiners’ reports.
Adams was originally charged by way of complaint and made his initial appearance May 14 in Kona District Court. Despite objections by Hawai‘i County prosecutors, he was released on supervised release.
Proceedings were suspended for Adams’ examination as to fitness and penal responsibility, and he was ordered to return June 19 for a hearing on the return of examiners’ reports.
Prosecutors presented the case May 21 before the Kona grand jury, obtained a true bill and the issuance of the $70,000 warrant.
First-degree burglary is a Class B felony punishable by either up to 10 years in prison or 4 years probation and up to 18 months in jail.
First-degree terroristic threatening is a Class C felony punishable by either up to 5 years in prison or 4 years probation and up to 12 months in jail.
