Flood advisory issued for portions of West Hawai‘i

A flood advisory has been issued for portions of West Hawai‘i.

At 12:51 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over northwest portions of the Big Island, especially over the South Kohala District. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Waikōloa Village, Kapa‘au, Pu‘uanahulu, Pōhakuloa Training Area, Pōhakuloa Camp, Puako, Kamuela, Holualoa, Honalo, Kawaihae, Kalaoa, Kainaliu, Kealakekua, Kahalu‘u-Keauhou, Kohala Ranch, Waipi‘o Valley, Waimanu Valley and Hōnaunau.

Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in streams is expected.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 4 p.m. if flooding persists.
