Flood advisory issued for Puna, Ka‘ū Districts

A flood advisory was issued for Puna and Ka‘ū Districts till midnight.

At 9:01 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over the southeast slopes of the Big Island, from just south of Hilo to South Point. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, Volcano, Wood Valley, Pāhala, Glenwood, Punalu‘u Beach, Mountain View, Kawa Flats, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidlands Estates, Nā‘ālehu, Kea‘au, Pāhoa, Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, Fern Forest, Eden Roc and Fern Acres.

Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in streams is expected.
