High winds expected throughout the state and Big Island summits
A high wind advisory has been issued for all Hawaiian Islands and a wind warning was issued for Big Island summits.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, northerly winds will strengthen today into advisory levels for most mountains along the western and eastern slopes of each island. Wind speeds will strengthen from west to east, starting with Kaua‘i and O‘ahu this morning and spreading east to the rest of the state later today and tonight.
North to northeast winds of 25 to 30 mph with localized gusts up to 50 mph are expected. The advisory is in place till Sunday at 6 p.m.
Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa summits are under a high wind warning with west winds anticipated to be 50 to 60 mph with localized gusts to around 80 mph.
The warning is in place till Saturday at 6 a.m.
