Certificate program for clinical research careers offered by University of Hawaiʻi

The University of Hawaiʻi is now accepting applications for its Clinical Research Professional Certificate Program.

The accelerated three-month program runs from Aug. 23 to Nov. 15. The deadline to apply is Aug. 21. The program is offered online by the UH Mānoa Outreach College.

The certificate program is designed to train those interested in becoming a clinical research associate at the UH Cancer Center, its affiliated hospitals or at other academic centers in support of clinical trials.

The field of clinical research is thriving in Hawai‘i. Upon the successful completion of the certificate program, students enter one of the fastest-growing fields in the United States (currently 14% annually). 

The program, offered at University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center, is for individuals seeking a new career path in clinical research. It provides foundational clinical trial knowledge, including oncology clinical trial coordination, basic statistical and epidemiologic methods, ethical and regulatory aspects of human subjects research and protocol development.

Depending on experience, the earning potential of a clinical research assistant ranges from $85,999 to $136,000 annually.

“The certificate program is the perfect starting point for anyone, whether you already have some background or experience, or if you’re brand new to the field,” said Janice Yonamine, program participant and clinical research associate at The Queen’s Medical Center, the Cancer Center of Hawaiʻi and Hawaiʻi Cancer Care.

“Clinical research is so dynamic and you will never go stagnant,” she added.
