Fire damages Hawaiian Acres community center

The Hawaiʻi County Fire Department responded at about 2 pm. on Sunday to a fire at a community center at 16-1325 Moho Road in Kurtistown. Nobody was in the building at the time of the fire.

The community center, owned by Hawaiian Acres Community Association, suffered smoke and heat damage throughout the approximately 20- by 50-foot building.

When firefighters arrived, flames were venting from a single window and wall and smoke were coming out of multiple windows. Entry was made through the double doors. Damage was mainly in the office area.

The fire is under investigation.
