UH-Hilo softball squad set to storm the West in 2023
The Vulcan softball squad will play 10 non-conference West regional teams as part of its 47-game slate in 2023, which is set to begin in February in Irvine, Calif.
The University of Hawai‘i at Hilo team will play six schools from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, three from the California Collegiate Athletic Association and one from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference as part of those non-conference matchups in addition to its eight-team Pacific West Conference schedule.
The first home game will also be the conference opener and will feature the Vulcans taking on Concordia University Irvine on Feb. 25. The Vulcans will also host Biola and Azusa Pacific before returning to Hilo in late April to play Chaminade and Hawai‘i Pacific University.
“The team has been working hard and it will be great to finally see them compete against someone other than themselves. We got a lot of young talent along with our returning veterans,” said UH-Hilo head softball coach Aisha Sueda, who is entering her second year at the helm, in a press release. “We will be starting off our season at the Concordia Kickoff Classic, which will be a great test for us playing against teams outside of the conference, especially National Championship runner-up Dominguez Hills. Looking forward to a great start of the season.”
Other highlighted teams the Vulcans face in their 2023 schedule include Colorado Christian and Sonoma State, which both made appearances in the NCAA Softball Championships Regional Round. APU and CUI were also participants in last year’s NCAA Postseason.
