Good Will Hawai‘i to celebrate grand opening of Kona Store’s relocation

Goodwill Hawai‘i will be hosting a grand opening celebration Saturday for the new location of its Kona Store and Donation Center in the Luhia Center.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. Free gift cards and tote bags will be given to the first 100 shoppers 18 years and older. There will also be complimentary refreshments and a live DJ. Goodwill Hawai‘i is set to open a fourth store and donation center on Hawai‘i Island at the Waikōloa Plaza next month.

“We are excited to welcome the community to our new Kona Store and Donation Center, which is an upgrade from our previous location and features air conditioning, ample parking and a separate donation drop-off door,” said Goodwill Hawai‘i president and CEO Katy Chen. “The investment in this new location is part of our three-year strategic plan to enhance our donor and customer experience in order to generate additional revenue for our programs and services on Hawai‘i Island. We are especially committed to increasing our impact on Hawai‘i Island and helping more people who are in need across the island.”

Supported by the revenue generated in stores, Goodwill provides free job training, education, financial literacy and support services for more than 2,500 Big Island disadvantaged residents each year, including low-income families, people transitioning out of incarceration, adults with disabilities, at-risk youth, and more. The goal is to help them find work and/or earn higher paying wages and increase their financial independence.

The nonprofit organization also has attended donation centers at the Keauhou Shopping Center in Kailua-Kona and at the Island of Hawai‘i YMCA in Hilo.
