Two missing hikers in the Honoka‘a area were found safe Thursday afternoon.

Hawai‘i Fire Department first responded to a report of the lost hikers — a 67-year-old and 51-year-old woman — in the Kalōpā State Recreation area. Crews responded at 12:52 p.m. and discovered the party’s vehicle in the parking lot.

Chopper 1 was also dispatched and conducted an overhead search while ground unit personnel used cellphones and GPS coordinates to narrow down the search area. The visitors were successfully found with no reported injuries.

HFD reports the couple was taken back to their vehicle at the trailhead.
