Fire crews rescue family cat from Hilo house fire

Firefighters rescued a family cat from a Hilo home after a stove fire on Saturday evening.

Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to the blaze, located at 398 Desha Avenue, at approximately 6:31 p.m.

Hawai‘i Police Officer Kuamo’o was first on scene and knocked out a stove fire that had spread through the kitchen and into the hallway. Fire crews arrived on scene and completed the extinguishment and overhaul.

Additionally, firefighters found the family’s cat unresponsive in the structure. The feline was removed and a firefighter resuscitated the animal. It was returned to family.
