Mokuaikaua Church Receives Grant for Third Phase of Preservation Work

Mokuaikaua Church stands unique among historic landmarks in the Islands, as the first founded church in the Kingdom of Hawai‘i. PC: Becker Communications.

Mokuaikaua Church, the first Christian church in Hawai’i, received the first half of $50,000 grant award from First Hawaiian Bank National Fund on Wednesday, Sept. 7, the church announced on Thursday.

The grant will be directed towards third phase of the preservation and protection of Mokuaikaua Church.

Included in the final preservation phase are additional steel mooring supports for the noteworthy steeple, period interior finishes, parking lot resurfacing and widening of iron gates. The project is anticipated to conclude in early 2023.
